Testing one two, testing one two

...and so it begins

Ok...the Holidays are behind us. We are 106 days away from our flight to Shanghai for our 2 week Viking River Cruise up the Yangtzee. So far have read one great book about China, "China Road" by NPR's Rob Gifford and downloaded a Mandarin phrasebook ap to my Droid that gives me the pronunciation of various Chinese words they think we are sure to need...like "toilet please?" / "gongce zai nar?" and "Where's the gate? / dengji kou jai nali? Gifford's book was enlightening as was NPR's reporter there during this entire phase of their incredible growth and entry onto the world stage. He speaks the language(s) fluently and narrates his hitch hiking trek from Shanghai to Tibet on what is equivalent to our Route 66. Along the way he provides an easy access point to interesting and quick summaries of China's history and how it seems to influence their thinking and actions today.
